What’s Holding You Back? The Canadian Dental Care Plan- A New Chapter in Dental Care!
Have you ever delayed a dental visit because of the cost? Access to oral health care has been a challenge for many Canadians for a long time. That’s why the federal government designed an initiative for uninsured individuals and families of all ages to access essential services- The Canadian Dental Care Plan. CDCP The program aims to assist those who do not have private dental insurance and whose household income falls below a specified threshold. By reducing financial barriers, the plan aims to ensure that cost is no longer a reason for delaying or avoiding necessary dental treatment.
With this exciting new program, some families or individuals can receive up to 100% coverage on their dental services. Coverage is based on annual household income. You may be wondering how it works… It’s pretty simple! If you’re uninsured, check eligibility on the CCDP website: Do You Qualify? It’s easy to apply and care can begin as soon as you’re accepted.
The CDCP focuses on essential dental care, and includes things like: exams and x-rays, cleanings, fillings, some extractions and with criteria crowns or root canals. While this is a huge step in the right direction from the government, like any government program there may be limitations. Depending on household income, there may be a co-payment, meaning the plan covers part, or most of the treatment and you pay the rest. Some is better than none, am I right?! What’s Covered While the plan may cover up to 100% coverage, its important to note, that the government uses fee guides that may be a few years old so at times, there may be a very small portion not paid for. We send estimates to the CDCP for dental services or treatment recommended so that there are no surprises.
A big question we get asked alot- can I go to any office to utilize the plan? The answer is no, not all dental offices enroll in the government program. Good news, we do. We have helped hundreds of patients since the roll out of the government plan to get the care they need and want. In a time where living costs are high, this is a program that can change the way you access dental care. Afterall, oral health isn’t a privilege, it’s an essential part of your overall health.
